Yangon United cling to Paly Off stage after earning home victory over DPMM

Yangon United advanced to Play off beating Brunei club DPMM today at Thuwunna stadium in the preliminary stage of AFC Cup 2023. The goals of Valencia and Zaw Win Thein made the team advance to the next stage.
Gerd’s side came out with 3-5-2 to face the visitor and dominated the match. A drive of Zaw Win Thein was saved by the goalkeeper. In 35 minutes of the match, Yangon was awarded a penalty when the defender intercepted Valencia in the penalty area. Then Sylla tried to hit, and his attempt missed the net. Both teams had to be satisfied with no goal in the first half.
In the second half, Yangon got chances to score when Valencia, Sylla, Yan Naing Oo, and Hlaing Bo Bo tried to hit the net, and the opponent’s keeper was in his best form to protect his net. Then DPMM opened a leading goal in 77 minutes, and substitute Farshad Noor scored a goal. But a minute later, Valencia equalized a goal with an assist from Zaw Win Thein. The movement of Zaw Win Thein made the visitor mess, and he sealed the victory with his goal in 89 minutes when Valencia crossed the ball to the goal area.
Yangon United Head Coach Gerd Zeise said, “I am actually satisfied with their performance, and there was some mistake. I saw so many supporters here, and thank you for your support. We cannot win without their support. We will try to win in the match against PSM Makassar in Bali.”
Yangon United will play against Indonesia club PSM Makassar in the play-off stage in Bali, Indonesia on 23rd August.
