Lions earn consecutive win after beating University 4-0
Yangon United delivered an impressive performance in their second match of Group-A in the MNL League Cup 2024, defeating University 4-0 at Thuwunna stadium today. The match saw goals from Sanogo, Gideon Tetteh, La Min Htwe, and Oakkar Naing, securing a comfortable victory for Yangon United.
The head coach made a tactical change, introducing Pyae Phyo Aung as the goalkeeper, which proved effective as the team kept a clean sheet. Yangon United took an early lead just three minutes into the game when Wai Lin Aung’s shot rebounded into the path of Sanogo, who capitalized on the opportunity. Gideon Tetteh extended the lead with a well-timed header in the 14th minute. Despite several attempts, Yangon United couldn’t find the net again before halftime due to some solid saves from the opponent’s keeper.
In the second half, substitutions were made to maintain the team’s momentum, with Oakkar Naing replacing Nyi Nyi Aung to bolster the left wing. Further substitutions saw La Min Htwe and Zaw Win Thein coming on for Sanogo and Yan Naing Oo, respectively. Although the opponent posed some challenges in the second half, Yangon United remained dominant. A shot from Zarni Htet hit the post, but La Min Htwe ensured another goal for Yangon United shortly after. The final goal came from a free kick and was taken by Oakkar Naing.
Yangon United’s Head Coach said, “I am satisfied with the first half and the result. I see a lot of improvements for some of the players. We have some small dangerous situations. In the end, I can say we conceded not a single goal like in the first match of the League Cup”.
