Yangon United opened the Myanmar National League Cup with a dominant 7-0 victory over Shwe Pyi Thar United today at Thuwunna Stadium.
Gideon Tetteh and Lamin Htwe were the standout performers, each scoring two goals during the match. Guiro Yaya, Sanogo, and Thar Yar Win Htet also scored a goal respectively, contributing to the comprehensive win.
Following the management of new Head Coach Frank Bernhardt, the squad came out with a 4-2-3-1 formation to face the opponent. The new faces of Yangon United featuring four foreign players, Wai Lin Aung and Nyi Nyi Aung involved in the starting list. The first and second goals came along with Tetteh securing the first two goals within 20 minutes. Then Guiro Yaya added a third leading goal heading to the net from the corner kick, followed by another from the Malian striker to make it 4-0 by halftime.
After the break, the head coach made some tactical substitutions, bringing on Oakkar Naing, La Min Htwe, and Hlaing Bo Bo in the place of Nyi Nyi Aung, Sanogo, and Wai Lin Aung. These changes proved effective, with La Min Htwe scoring the fifth goal In the 64th minute, assisted by Tetteh. The young player continued to impress, securing his second goal of the match in the 75th minute. Then substitute Thar Yar Win Htet capped off the victory with a well-executed goal shortly after entering the field, bringing the final score to a 7-0 win in favor of Yangon United.
Yangon United Head Coach Frank Bernhardt commented, “This was the first match, and the first half was really good. And I am satisfied with that. In the second half, some young players got chances. Not so dominating, but anyway, we made a really good game today.”
Lions lead the table in Group-A of Myanmar National League Cup 2024 with goal difference, and on March 5th, the lads are set to face University at Thuwunna stadium.
