Lions take three points home beating Hantharwady United 2-1
Yangon United took three points beating Hantharwady United 2-1 today at Thuwunna stadium in week 20 of Myanmar National League 2023. The opponent led the match with a goal from Zin Min Tun via penalty, and Zarni Htet and Zaw Win Thein made each goal to earn three points.
The team featuring young players such as Zin Ko Htet, Yan Kyaw Soe, Zaw Win Thein, and Lamin Htwe came out to face the opponent. Hantharwady made the first attempt to score in just 4 minutes of the match penetrating the defense line. However, they could not make a goal. In 26 minutes, the referee awarded a penalty to Hatharwady after Lamin Htwe committed a foul in the penalty area, and Zin Min Tun opened a leading goal. But the lads could come back and equalize the goal in 41 minutes, and Zarni Htet headed to the net from the delivery of Thurein Soe to break the first half 1-1.
The lads were better in the second half and led the match in 63 minutes by Zaw Win Thein paving from Yan Kyaw Htwe. The Lions kept pushing and got two chances to score. Then 88 minutes, with a crossing of Zaw Win Thein to the goal area, Okkar Naing attempted to head to the net. However, the opponent’s keeper denied it. In the remaining minutes of the match, both teams battled for the goals and kept pushing till the end of the final whistle.
Yangon United Head Coach Gerd Zeise said, “It was a tough game, really a tough one. Especially, since we came very late into the game. So in the break, I have to change formation that came better and won the game”.
Yangon United keeps placing in the second after 19 played, 15 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, and earned 47 points. Coming December 1st, the lads will host ISPE at YUSC in week 21 of Myanmar National League 2023.
