Lions lead table beating Mahar United

Yangon United emerged victorious in the match against Mahar United, securing the top spot in Group-A of the Myanmar National League Cup 2024 today at University stadium. Yangon dominated the match with a 3-0 victory, with goals from Yan Naing Oo, La Min Htwe and Nyi Nyi Aung.

The head coach implemented a 4-2-3-1 formation leading by Captain David Htan. The game started with Mahar United pushing hard in the early minutes, managing three attempts on goal, all of which were expertly saved by Pyae Phyo Aung, displaying his best form. However, despite Mahar’s early efforts, they couldn’t find the back of the net in the first half, and Yangon United struggled to create a clear goal-scoring opportunities leading to a goalless deadlock at halftime.

In the 58th minute, strategic substitutions were made, with Gideon Tetteh and Emmanuel being replaced by Oakkar Naing and La Min Htwe, which injected new attacking vigor into the team. The lads broke the deadlock in the 64 minutes, with Yan Naing Oo scoring a superb goal assisted by La Min Htwe. This opened the floodgates for Yangon United, as La Min Htwe himself added a second goal shortly after, courtesy of an attack from Ye Lin Htet on the right wing. The victory was sealed in the dying moments of the match when substitute Nyi Nyi Aung scored with a fine assist from Thar Yar Win Htet, securing the 3-0 win for Yangon United.

Yangon United Head Coach Frank Bernhardt commented, “Two different halves and two different styles we played today. With first half is I was not really happy and with the second half, I am really happy and I think we deserved to win this game today.”

With this win,Yangon United lead the table with 12 points from 4 matches in Myanmar National League Cup 2024 and coming April 25th, the lads will face Shwe Pyi Thar United at YUSC.
